Kia ora tātou, it’s nice to meet you.

Ko Scout Barbour-Evans tōku ingoa. Ko Ngāti Kahungunu ki te Wairoa rāua ko Ngāti Porou tōku iwi. I’m an Ōtepoti-based solo parent by choice (QSPC) to a super busy, super cool young school-aged kid, and since her existence I’ve never been caught up on the laundry.

I am disabled, with ME/CFS, Long Covid, and POTS. I am neurodivergent, though my particular strains are still being identified. My child is also neurodivergent, and on long waiting lists to identify her particular strains. We both have long lists of unmet needs, no eligibility for disability support services (DSS) between us, and clashing needs. But we do what we can to make good from it.

I own Te Kahukura Puāwai, a boutique consultancy firm mostly focused on rainbow inclusion in the health sector. I’m a Masters student studying Health Policy, Planning and Service Delivery. I hold a Bachelor of Leadership for Change. In my study and mahi I work on research and systems improvement projects with a focus on narrative based change and lived experience policy creation.

For all these reasons, I make no promises to make content for you. My content will be sporadic. I will forget this Substack exists. I will resent it in a month. I will refuse to charge for my writing because I don’t want to be compelled to do it against my will. But when I want to write, you might enjoy it. So, if you want, you can subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and publication archives.

Thank you, and see you round 👋🏼

Scout (they/them, Ngāti Kahungunu ki te Wairoa rāua ko Ngāti Porou) writes sporadically and unpredictably, mostly fuelled by spite and electrolytes, about their mahi, study and life in the health, rainbow, parenting and disability worlds.
